About the Artist
Where mathematics meets visual art — fractal flames rendered into bold, large-format digital artwork.
Todd LeBaron
Todd LeBaron is a fractal artist creating mathematical art with Chaotica software. His work lives at the intersection of mathematics, code, and visual art — using iterated function systems and flame algorithms to generate intricate, large-scale digital pieces.
With over 30 years in technology — spanning software engineering, enterprise architecture, and AI — Todd now channels that technical depth into generative art. The same instinct for pattern recognition and systems thinking that drove his career in tech drives his exploration of chaotic mathematical spaces.
MineTheGap is the gallery and studio for this work: original fractal artwork available as high-resolution prints and digital downloads.
The Process
Each piece follows a four-stage pipeline — from pure math to print-ready artwork.
Flame Algorithms
Every piece begins with mathematical flame algorithms in Chaotica — iterated function systems that generate infinite complexity from simple equations.
Parameter Exploration
Hours of adjusting transforms, weights, color palettes, and camera angles. The art emerges from disciplined experimentation with chaotic systems.
Post-Processing
Raw renders are refined in GIMP — color grading, composition adjustments, and detail work to bring the mathematical output into its final visual form.
AI Enhancement
Waifu2x neural upscaling pushes renders to ultra-high resolution, preserving fractal detail at print-quality scales up to 48" and beyond.
The Collections
Work is organized into thematic collections — each exploring a different visual territory within fractal space.
12 Empires
A sci-fi inspired series of cosmic warfare and alien civilizations. Explosive palettes, warped geometries, and the chaos of interstellar conflict.
Mercury
Liquid metal forms and reflective surfaces. Chrome, silver, and molten metallic structures captured mid-flow.
Neon Geometries
Bright geometric patterns in synthetic color. Sharp edges, vivid gradients, and electric symmetry.
Starcharts
Deep space, nebulae, and stellar cartography. Cosmic dust rendered through flame algorithms.
String Theory
Mathematical structures and dimensional threads. Delicate filaments weaving through abstract space.
